About Carrom Pool: Disc Game

Carrom Pool is a digital version of carrom, the board game popular in many parts of South Asia and beyond. You flick a striker to pocket discs on a square board. The mobile version keeps the feel of the real game and adds online matches. This page explains the rules and offers tips for improving.

The board and pieces

The board has four corner pockets. Discs are arranged in a circle in the centre, with nine white, nine black and one red piece called the queen. You play one colour and try to pocket all of yours before your opponent does. The striker is the larger piece you control.

Basic rules

Players take turns placing the striker on their baseline and flicking it to hit discs. If you pocket one of your own discs, you continue your turn. If you pocket the queen, you must cover it by pocketing one of your own discs immediately afterwards, or the queen returns to the centre. Fouls, such as pocketing the striker, usually cost you a disc, which is returned to the board.

Aiming and power

You slide the striker along the baseline, set the direction with a guide line and pull back to set power. Small adjustments matter. Strong shots send discs flying, but they also increase the risk of losing control. Soft shots are better for precision, especially when placing discs near pockets.

Variants

The game includes several variants, such as freestyle and other regional rules. Each variant has slightly different scoring and foul rules. Read the rules before choosing a mode. Freestyle is a good starting point for beginners.

Strategy

Plan your shots to leave the striker in a good position for the next turn. Clear discs that are close to pockets first, and keep discs that are difficult for later only if they do not block you. Avoid breaking clusters unless you have a plan. Use the walls for angled shots, and think about where the disc will go after contact.

Covering the queen

The queen is worth extra points, but it is risky. Pocket it when you have a clear follow-up shot, because failing to cover it wastes the turn. Do not rush for the queen at the start of the match unless the layout makes it easy.

Online play and customisation

You can play against friends or random players. Winning gives coins and rewards, which can be used to unlock striker designs and boards. These are mostly cosmetic and do not replace skill. Quick chat options keep communication simple.

Free or paid?

There is no upfront price, but expect ads and optional extras you can buy. An internet connection is needed for online matches. Parents should consider purchase controls.

Best suited to

Carrom Pool is a good match for fans of board games and for players who like precision. It is easy to learn and has a relaxed rhythm. It is suitable for a wide range of ages.

Closing view

Carrom Pool brings a beloved board game to your phone. Practise your aim, think about the next shot and enjoy the quiet satisfaction of a well-controlled strike.
