About Spider Solitaire: Card Games
Spider Solitaire is a patience card game that uses two decks and asks you to build full sequences from king to ace. It is more challenging than many other solitaire games, and it rewards careful planning. This app presents the game with convenient features such as hints, undo and daily challenges. This page explains the rules and strategy.
The layout
The tableau has ten columns of cards, with only the top card of each face up. Below is a stock of cards that can be dealt, one card per column, when you have no useful moves. The goal is to build complete sequences of the same suit, from king down to ace. Each complete sequence is removed from the board. When all eight are removed, you win.
Moving cards
You can move a card onto another that is one rank higher, regardless of suit. However, you can only move a group of cards together if they are in sequence and the same suit. This is why keeping suits together is important. Empty columns are valuable, because you can place any card or sequence in them.
Difficulty levels
The app offers one, two and four suit modes. One suit is the easiest, and it is ideal for beginners. Two suits add complexity, and four suits are the traditional challenge. Many players start with one suit, move to two, and try four when they are comfortable.
Strategy
Uncover hidden cards in the columns with the fewest cards first, aiming to create an empty column. Build sequences in the same suit whenever possible. Avoid dealing from the stock until you have exhausted useful moves, because dealing covers cards. Before dealing, try to fill empty columns, since you cannot deal when a column is empty in some rule sets.
Using undo and hints
Undo lets you take back a move, which is useful for learning. Hints show a possible move, but they may not be the best. Use them to understand, not to replace thinking. Some players challenge themselves to win without undo.
Daily challenges
Daily games give you a specific deal, with a calendar of results. They add a reason to play every day, but they are optional. You can also play by theme or season. Completing challenges may unlock visual rewards.
Customisation
You can change card backs, table colours and card sizes. Larger cards help on small phones. A high-contrast theme can reduce eye strain.
Spending and ads
The app is free with advertisements and optional purchases to remove them or add features. It can be played offline.
Player fit
It suits patient players who like thinking ahead. It is good for quiet moments and has no time pressure. It may be frustrating in four-suit mode, because many deals are difficult.
Bottom line
Spider Solitaire is a thoughtful card game with room for skill. Begin with one suit, aim for empty columns and enjoy the satisfaction of completing a full sequence.
