About Block Blast!
Block Blast is a puzzle game in which you place coloured block shapes on an eight-by-eight board. When you fill a complete row or column, it disappears and you score points. It is similar in spirit to block-fitting games, but without falling pieces or time pressure. This page explains how it works and gives tips.
How it works
Three shapes are offered at a time. You drag them onto the board and release. Shapes cannot be rotated, so you have to use them as they are. When all three shapes are used, a new set appears. If none of the available shapes can fit anywhere, the game ends. The score depends on lines cleared and combos.
Scoring and combos
Clearing several lines at once gives more points, and clearing lines in consecutive moves builds a combo. The game rewards planning ahead, because a patient player can set up a large clear. However, waiting too long can fill the board. A balance between safe play and ambitious combos is the key skill.
Planning your moves
Always look at all three shapes before placing the first. Decide where each might go, and in what order. Avoid placing a piece that blocks the others. Think about the shape of the empty space, not just the number of empty cells. Large rectangular spaces are valuable, because they accept many shapes.
Practical tips
Keep one or two columns on the edge of the board open for long pieces. Fill from one side to the other in an orderly way. Avoid creating isolated single empty cells, since only the smallest piece can use them. When the board is nearly full, prioritise clearing lines over scoring. Use the smaller shapes carefully; they are your safety net.
Modes
The game offers a classic endless mode and other formats, such as level-based challenges or timed events. The classic mode is good for relaxation and score chasing. Level-based modes give clear goals and can be a nice change.
Offline play
One of the appeals of this game is that it can be played without an internet connection. This makes it suitable for travelling and waiting rooms. Advertisements may still appear depending on your connection.
Visuals and sound
The design is bright and minimal, with satisfying animations when lines clear. Sound effects are light. The game runs well on most devices.
Who it suits
It is suitable for anyone who likes simple puzzles that can be played at any pace. Children and adults can enjoy it. People who prefer story or action may find it too plain.
Costs and purchases
The game is free with advertisements and optional purchases that can remove them or add features.
Our verdict
Block Blast is a clean, relaxing puzzle with room for skill. Plan three moves at a time, protect your open spaces and enjoy the satisfaction of a perfect clear.
